Course Descriptions for: PORTUGUESE I and II Designed for students with no
prior knowledge of Portuguese, this course teaches how to communicate in simple
everyday situations. While the emphasis of the course is on developing speaking
proficiency, it also introduces basic grammar concepts and teaches beginning
reading skills. Upon completion of the course students will be able to
participate in simple conversations while traveling, at work or during leisure
time. Students will also be able to read and understand simple descriptions of
people and places such as information intended for tourists. Course Descriptions for: PORTUGUESE III Designed for students with a basic knowledge of Portuguese,
this course focuses on the development of fluency. Students will expand their
ability to carry out simple conversations on a limited range of topics. Previous
grammar concepts are reviewed and more complicated structures are introduced.
Upon completion of the course students will be able to initiate and maintain
predictable conversations and understand the main points of clear standard input
on familiar matters Course Descriptions for: PORTUGUESE IV This course provides intensive practice in conversation and reading comprehension and considerably broadens students’ vocabulary through the use of authentic audio and written materials. Upon completion of the course students will be able to participate in extensive casual conversations about work, family and current events and will be able to read factual news reports as well as formulaic business letters and simple technical materials.

Text used: Falar…Ler… Escrever…Português (text and exercise book) Course Descriptions for: PORTUGUESE - GENERAL REVIEW AND ADVANCED CONVERSATION An interactive course focused on the student's participation through the history and main aspects of culture of Brazil. The Brazilian popular music will be used as tool to learn vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar. The emphasis is on conversation and discussion of specific cultural topics. Designed to familiarize students
with contemporary and colloquial usage of the language and to draw their
attention to differences between the spoken and written language. It is also
designed to have the students acquire new vocabulary and review points of
grammar, which present most difficulties. Course Descriptions for: PORTUGUESE COURSE FOR NATIVE SPANISH SPEAKERS (I & II) Two courses designed specifically for native speakers of Spanish with a
greatly accelerated pace. The emphasis will be on pronunciation and grammatical
and semantical similarities and differences between Portuguese and Spanish. All
basic grammar concepts will be covered and students will be able to progress to
Portuguese IV after completing both sessions.
