One-Month Intensive Training to help ESL teachers and instructors
upgrade their skills and expand their knowledge of American
methodologies of Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), including
ICLS’ induced discourse method.
Training includes (1) program orientation;
(2) morning visits to local public and private schools and colleges to
observe methods of classroom instruction, teaching techniques and
training logistics; (3) afternoon workshops with ICLS teaching staff to
observe, practice, and discuss ESL teachers’ training techniques,
classroom instruction and curriculum and training materials; (4) team
project presentations on a variety of topics to help master language
learning and teaching techniques; and (5) meeting professional
colleagues by attending networking events and workshops.
The program targets ESL teachers from
secondary and post secondary schools and special language training
schools and centers.
This program includes intensive training
workshops for 40 hours, five days a week. The ESL staff will provide
mentoring and counseling to program participants on a regular basis.
ICLS will monitor and evaluate training progress and discuss
training outcomes with program participants and ESL staff.
ENROLLMENT
Applications are accepted on a continual, year-round basis. Due to strict visa regulations, we
strongly encourage early submission of applications.
Those
who enroll in One-Month Professional Training are required to submit applications two months
prior to the start of the training workshops at ICLS. ICLS will need a maximum of one-month to
review and process the application information for issuing DS-2019 Form and to develop a
customized training plan, and overall, to prepare a J-1 visa application package per applicant.
The application packages will be sent to applicants as soon as they are complete.
Obtaining a J-1 Visa
New US
Visa regulations require a rigorous review of documents that are required before ICLS can issue
the DS-2019 form. This includes reviewing the visa application, identifying the host
company placement, developing the training plan, interviewing the applicant, reviewing the
financial support documents and medical insurance, as well obtaining sufficient evidence of the
applicant’s intention to return to home country upon completion of the program. To learn
about the specifics of the J-1 visa application review, please visit the US Embassy located in
your home country. We advise you to sign up early for an interview prior to receiving a
J-1 application package. Due to many applications, US Embassies set up an interview date
for a J-1 visa applicant. We also suggest you check with the US Embassy on a regular
basis to monitor any changes in scheduling an interview or visa processing. Please count
on at least one month to obtain an appointment for the interview. Processing of J-1 visa
applications may vary at each US Embassy/Consulate in your home country.
