TRAINING OF TRAINERS (TOT) PROGRAM FOR
NON-ENGLISH SPEAKING ESL TEACHERS

One-Month

PROGRAM OUTLINES

The International Center for Language Studies (ICLS) presents the Training of Training (TOT) Program for (English as a Second Language) ESL Instructors and ESL Education Administrators through its International Exchange and Business Training Program (IEBT).

Today’s business world and globalization require international professionals to be multilingual and multicultural. Business English has become a key communication and business-networking tool in conducting businesses around the world. Future generations of professionals will work and communicate in an international professional and business setting. The demand for highly professional ESL teachers is constantly growing and will become a number one issue due to the lack of well-qualified teachers.

TRAINING GOALS, OBJECTIVES AND BENEFITS

TOT program participants will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills through a short-term, specialized on-the-job training program that will include:

(1) Upgrading professional teaching and administrative skills for ESL teachers from high schools, colleges, higher educational institutions, and specialized language and business training institutions;

(2) Expanding participants' expertise in developing effective curriculum and training materials based on the latest American methods of teaching English to ESL instructors who are non-native speakers of English;

(3) Learning effective methods of implementing new training programs, policies and guidelines aimed at improving training programs, teaching personnel, and school environments;

(4) Learning effective leadership skills and supervision of teaching staff and administrative personnel;

(5) Developing effective classroom instruction and training guidelines for entry-level teachers and future ESL teachers (college graduates);

(6) Gaining knowledge of American public and private school systems and specialized language training schools, comparing their education systems, ESL program administration and training and work environments;

(7) Gaining cultural experience and knowledge of American work environments through on-the-job training alongside education administrators, training managers, and supervisors.

(8) Sharing home country knowledge about participants' education systems, teaching traditions, culture, and people with American colleagues and friends.

(9) Establishing professional and business partnerships and developing strong ties between schools, teaching and administrative personnel.

TRAINING OF TRAINERS (TOT) PROGRAM OPTIONS FOR ESL TEACHERS & INSTRUCTORS

ICLS Training of Trainers (TOT) program introduces cross-cultural training and etiquette for doing business in the United States. To promote cross-cultural awareness, participants will be invited to compare their business and work customs with those in the United States and in other countries.  The program orientation will include a variety of common social and business situations, visiting professional places and workshops in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

Throughout the course, program participants will learn how to use an integrated approach to teaching four skills -- listening, speaking, reading, and writing through various case study scenarios and training materials used in social, business, and professional environments. ESL teachers-participants will practice using this approach based on ESL’s curriculum at ICLS.

The TOT Training Program offers three options:

  1. One-Month Intensive Training: It helps ESL teachers and instructors upgrade their skills and expand their knowledge of American methodologies of Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), including ICLS’ induced discourse method.

  2. Two-Month Intensive Training: It helps ESL teachers and instructors upgrade their skills and expand their knowledge of American Methodologies of Teaching Business English as a Second Language (ESL) -- Case Study Method with emphasis on developing business and professional communication skills.

  3. Three-Month Training: It helps ESL teachers and instructors who combine teaching responsibilities with training management supervision and administration.
