Overview

OPTION TWO:
Intensive Regular and Business English Language Orientation, followed by On-The-Job Training

IEBT Program

As a part of international exchange training, this option offers participants an opportunity to increase fluency in a business setting. The 40-hour Business and Professional English Program is designed to complement the morning Intensive English Program (IEP) with an emphasis on speaking and listening skills in order to help trainees assimilate in an English speaking business and working environment.

The goal is to introduce participants to American business culture, and provide opportunities to reinforce the language skills learned in the Intensive English Program in a business context. Particular emphasis is placed on business calls, taking messages, participating in business meetings, interviews, networking, internship programs, and volunteer work.

The program also allows participants to engage in business-related activities that enable them to understand cultural differences, the use of business idioms, and the rhythm of an American office and business environment. A survey of best practices and the opportunity to practice business role plays exposes participants to a variety of management styles and co-worker behavior. Applicants will be given a placement test to determine their English proficiency.  HIGH INTERMEDIATE TO ADVANCED ENGLISH PROFICIENCY IS REQUIRED.

This course is offered in a series of four-week customized courses meeting from 20 hours to 40 hours a week from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at ICLS. The course includes career-counseling sessions to help trainees focus on professional exchange training goals.

During the Program Orientation workshop, the IEBT Program Management will advise participants on the J-1 visa program and on-the-job training requirements. The Program Orientation will cover: (1) J-1 Visa Exchange Visitor Program requirements, and (2) Guidelines of On-The-Job Professional (Internship) Training at a U.S. Company or Organization

On-The-Job Professional (Internship) Training with a U.S. Institution.  Upon completion of the Intensive and Business English Course, the program participants join their already-assigned American host organizations and companies for 35-40 hours a week to continue their program through on-the-job training portion.

The training field and length of the training program will be determined by the IEBT Program Management and communicated to the host company/organization based on the information provided by a participant in his/her application package.

Participants receive individually crafted training plans based not only on their occupational/subject fields, professional knowledge and on-the-job training goals, but also on the mutual goals and interests of the host company/organization as well.  Participants will perform their job assignments in accordance with pre-established training plans. A Host Organization Supervisor will be assigned to monitor and evaluate  each participant's achievement. Participants are expected to contact the IEBT Program Management on a monthly basis to discuss their accomplishments.
